We are a Champion for the Dorset Sustainable Palm Oil Community
We at St Osmunds’ CE Middle School are committed to participate in the Dorset Sustainable Palm Oil Community project.
By March 2023 we will have worked with our suppliers to ensure that where palm oil is present in our food and other resources used in school, it will be from sustainable sources. We will audit our resources to identify current usage and identify alternative products to remedy this. This will include events for raising funds for the school.
By doing so, we know that we are fighting climate change and also helping to protect wildlife around the world from the impact of unsustainable agricultural practices.
St Osmund's have a healthy and vibrant student voice in many areas, all forming an important part of personal development and all informing our curriculum and school culture. We have a Student Focus Group which is led by some Year 8 students each year and pulls in different size student samples to consult upon various things such as the PSHE curriculum and other things in school. We have an Anti-Bullying action group, led by trained ambassadors, who run the whole-school student survey each year and lead work in this area through the year. We also have an Eco Group who work strategically to lead the school towards being Net Zero as well as Ossie's Climate Action Group who are specifically focussed on climate justice and are leading on in-school events to raise awareness across our community, as well as funds for projects. Currently we are working towards funding a food composter to eliminate food waste and its transportation. OCAG have ambitious plans for sustainable energy and are engaged with the Town Council, the Mayor being particularly interested in learning from our young people about what the town needs.
