A huge ‘well done’ to the year 7 basketball team who put on a show to be proud of on Tuesday afternoon. Colfox hosted the year 7 Area Basketball tournament with 6 schools competing. Our year 7 team had previously had a practice against Budmouth the week before where they were beaten a whopping 40 – 14! However, this didn’t deter our plucky pupils who donned their Ossie basketball vests and went onto the court with an air of quiet confidence. In a nail biting match against Budmouth, Simon Jeff managed to secure 2 points from 3 free shots which gave us another 2 minutes. In the last 30 secs Budmouth managed to score making it a close 6-4 win to them. Next up was DMS and a team not to be messed with. However, the Ossie team went from strength to strength with such a strong defence that Dms were prevented from scoring. A fabulous shot from Sly ensured a win to Ossies. This low scoring game was enough to get us through to the finals and play a feisty St Mary’s Puddletown. It was neck and neck all the way until 2 minutes from the end st Mary’s scored a 3 pointer. For many teams this would have been a point of no return, but not for this team. They fought until the end, holding up loose ball (Diaz), preventing a drive to the basket (Hopcraft) and keeping possession (Thornley), until 30 secs from the end Hopcroft scores an equalising 3 pointer. This gave Ossies another 2 minutes where through dogged determination and pure grit they won! This was one of the most exciting school basketball matches I have had the privilege of watching and one of the proudest for both Mr Symes and myself. The boys maintained respect, control and a breathtaking progression. Well done to you all.
