On Thursday the St Osmunds cross country team travelled to Kings Park, Bournemouth for the Dorset Cross Country finals. With perfect conditions but a very challenging course our pupils ran superbly. As usual the course for this event is longer, with a variety of terrain, set to challenge the runners. Each race started with approximately 200 runners, but only two thirds managed to complete it! The St Osmunds team ALL completed it with some exceptional placings. In the minor girls (yr 7) Emily Pitman secured an impressive 2nd, missing 1st by a hairs breadth!
In the minor boys Luke Sheehy stormed in for an outstanding 18th which meant both Emily and Luke are now through to run for the South West of England at the Regional event next month.
In the more demanding juniors event (years 8&9) our pupils ran courageously against a field of older pupils! Jacob Wride was immense in his run and despite running against pupils a year older he was placed 24 out of more than 200!
Every pupil who ran deserves our congratulations as these events require a special strength of character and determination. It was a wonderful event with a wonderful team. Well done runners.
